Shelter for defuelling of the nuclear service ship Lepse opened

On the 26th of September 2018 the shelter for the defuelling of the nuclear service ship Lepse located at the Nerpa shipyard near Murmansk in northern Russia was opened. The opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of ROSATOM State Corporation and others participants of the Lepse decommissioning project, including the Russian nuclear enterprises and international organizations providing the financial support through the Nuclear Window of the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership Support Fund managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

On the FCNRS's request Sosny R&D Company has been proactively involved in preparations for the Lepse decommissioning for several years. In accordance with the Preliminary Design developed by JSC Afrikantov OKBM, the specialist of Sosny R&D Company have designed and fabricated the special equipment for the spent fuel retrieval from the Lepse storage tanks, new canisters for SNF transport, the SNF retrieval equipment remote control system and CCTV system. In addition we have designed and fabricated some systems and equipment for the Lepse Shelter itself, such as a 16T trolley, a knuckle boom crane, a criticality alarm system, a CCTV system and a guide device remote control system. All the equipment has been successfully tested and is ready for the on-site SNF retrieval activities.
