On March 22, 2023, Aleksey Yu. Russkikh, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region, awarded Sergey V. Pavlov, Deputy Director for Science and Technology of the Sosny R&D Company , with a certificate and a badge of honor "Honored Science and Engineer of the Ulyanovsk region".
The area of Mr.Pavlov's scientific interests includes methods and equipment for post-irradiation examinations of fuel assemblies and fuel elements from water-water power-grade reactors (VVER), material testing of fuel elements and fuel assemblies, management of the spent nuclear fuel, development of equipment for fabrication of U-Pu nitride fuel.
In 2016, he defended his doctoral thesis "Methods and equipment for testing the VVER fuel assemblies for the experimental support in introducing the fuel at nuclear power plants".
Sergey V. Pavlov published over 250 scientific papers, including 6 monographs, 3 tutorials, 8 patents of invention, 4 programs for electronic computers and databases.
Under his supervision, the Sosny R&D Company carried out a number of major projects important to Russia's nuclear industry:
– new methods and equipment for examinations of the VVER fuel assemblies in hot cells and cooling pools were developed significantly expanding the experimental capabilities of the reactor material science and enhancing the efficiency, informativity and performance of the post-irradiation examinations;
– uniques equipment was developed for industrial production of U-Pu nitride fuel for new Generation 4 reactors at the Siberian Chemical Combine under the Proryv project.
Sergey V. Pavlov is also the chair of Sosny R&D Company's basic department at Dimitrovgrad Institute of Engineering and Technology - MEPhY Branch, where he exercises the scientific guidance of the students and post-graduates along with teaching activities at the Institute. Under his supervision 3 postgraduate students, including two Sosny R&D Company's employees, have successfully defended their theses. Moreover, Mr. Pavlov is the member of the Dissertation Council D 999.001.02 for the academic degree of a candidate and doctor of science at OJSC Afrikantov OKBM and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University.
Sergey V. Pavlov is also a member and patron of the Board of Trustees of Ulyanovsk State University.
For a scientific activity of many years and outstanding contribution to the development of the nuclear industry, Mr. Pavlov received numerous departmental, regional and national awards.
