In 2016, Sosny R&D Company and the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM signed a government contract for fabrication of canisters for the spent nuclear fuel removed from the caissons at the storage facility of the Floating Maintenance Base "Lepse".
In May 2018, six months before the due time, 209 ChT-14U canisters and 25 ChT-14L canisters were fabricated at the Pilot Production Facility (PPF) of Sosny R&D Company and delivered to FSUE Atomflot. Acceptance tests at the PPF proved high quality of the fabricated canisters.
For information: Sosny R&D Company has been proactively involved in preparations for decommissioning of the FMB Lepse that has kept in store spent fuel assemblies from Russian nuclear icebreakers in canisters and caissons at it storage facility. The work has been done under order of JSC FCNRS with support from the International Consultant Nuvia Limited. Funds are provided by the North Dimension Environmental Partnership set up by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development as part of technical assistance to the Russian Federation. The work is done jointly with National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute» with the participation of FSUE Atomflot and SC Zvezdochka, branch of SRY Nerpa.
